Keeping It Real Green: because no one likes a dirty greenwasher.

  • Image: Free guide to responsible green marketing

You've invested time and money reducing your impact on the environment. You've worked hard to make better decisions for your organization. So why throw it away with careless marketing?

Most greenwash is simply a matter of carelessness, and most of it is easily avoided. Keeping It Real Green is a short piece of work with a lot of solid advice on how to do just that. It's not a comprehensive guide to the vast world of responsible green marketing (I'm working on that right now). It will, however, provide you with the basics of responsible green marketing.

Nevermind the fluff, here's some useful advice

It doesn't matter if you're a freelance designer, a marketer, a manager, or something else—Real Green offers a practical introduction to the issues you'll inevitably face when trying to talk about an organization's environmental decisions in a way that's authentic, honest, and effective:

  • Definitions of green marketing
  • Choosing the right communications channels for your messages
  • How to execute marketing messages thoughtfully
  • Using transparency to build trust
  • Developing accurate messages
  • Developing ethical messages
  • Developing messages that deliver real value to customers

The guide also includes a green marketing checklist so you can evaluate your current marketing materials.

About the Print Version
Real Green was originally produced as a hard-copy pamphlet to accompany a panel discussion on green business for San Francisco's Small Business Week (and was subsequently featured on the popular For Print Only website).

I've decided to stop offering the hard copy version, however, because I'd like to encourage PDF distribution.

If the demand is high enough, I may produce a hard copy of the expanded booklet once it's complete. Sign up to be informed when it's ready.
